Hello from northern Finland! We arrived in Oulu and found some snow on the ground, but it was drizzling quite a lot. It's been raining off and on ever since. Everyone on campus was complaining about the lack of snow.
Instead of the usual banter I think that, in this part of the blog, I'll tell about the little things I notice about Oulu, Finland and the Finns.
First, the Finns rarely smile. It's a cultural thing. This is the same in France so it didn't surprise me very much, but I'm surprised how their not smiling makes me want to smile more...maybe as defiance. I will smile darn it!
